2022.01.25 05:00 throaway_4153 Too much weight, too little loss
So 10 days ago I started 16:8 with counting calories. I'm eating around 1850 calories and for my weight (35F, 350 bs) I lost pretty little weight the first week 1.1 kg (2.5 Ibs?) to be exactly. Which is definitely too little as I know people at my weight lose more the first week. Apart from that now I'm seeing a steady 300-400 gr gain everyday where I almost made it to my start weight. I drink plenty of water and made sure not to exercise the first 2 weeks so my body can get used to this new rhythm. I feel so discouraged as I really don't want to go to the surgery route. Is there any explanation for this? Any help is appreciated.

2022.01.25 05:00 LaDeckard After Hours At Oakfold Green Mall
I stood up, rubbed my eyes, glanced about, and... for a little moment, I forgot where I was. My crappy apartment has just been taken from me and I'll simply spend the night in my car and figure out what to do next, right? But, of course, my car was nowhere to be seen. For parking less than an inch over the line, you'll get towed.
I was now homeless, jobless, without a car, without money, and without sleep. So, I went inside Oakfold Green Mall, sat on a seat, closed my eyes, and suddenly... I awoke.
When I awoke, everything was black. The entire place was deserted, the entrances to the stores are locked, Kiosks with tarps wrapped over them and the bathrooms were also locked.
Why didn't someone wake me up?
I peered both ways along the dimly lit corridors, still drowsy. You could tell this place hadn't been updated since the 90s. The carpeted floor was the biggest giveaway and You, too, are familiar with the sort of carpet I'm referring to. Splattered with odd squiggles and bright forms, that made the floor seem more like an abstract artwork than where people walked.
Worse still, malls have always given me the creeps. Perhaps it's because of the maze-like arrangements, maybe it's the mannequins with no faces or perhaps it's the massive posters of happy smiling individuals.
I yawned as I stood up from the bench and stretched out my arms. I was irritated at this point, but not much else. This was a simple problem to solve: find security, explain what occurred, and they'll let you go. I strolled down the dimly lit corridor, passing shop by shop. There were deals going on everywhere, What's the deal with that?
As I walked, something thudded into the glass behind me. I turned around and stared into the void, The bang reverberated down the corridor, as if someone had smacked their head against a window.
"...Hello, who's there?"
There was no answer, Only the faint echo of my own words returned to me. A strip of regressive darkness went all the way down to a Target entrance. Like clenched teeth, the gated bars blocked the store, and a shiver came down my spine, I shook it off, turned back down the corridor, and continued on my journey.
Why did it have to be Oakfold Green Mall of all the malls to be caught in? This location was a minefield of memories from a better time, recollections that only served to remind me of how far I'd fallen. For this was the same mall that I used to go with my friends when we were youngsters.
We'd steal games from the Gamestop, slip vodka bottles from the liquor store and play video games at the now-defunct Galactic arcade. This was the same mall where I had my very first date. We went to see a movie at the theatre and ate in the food court while holding hands. At the now bankrupt Bob’s Boosts in the same mall, I worked my first job mixing smoothies.
I don't want to come out as bitter, but I know I'm not the only one who despises anything that reminds you of your past. Especially when your history was so much better than your current situation. I wasn't the most popular kid in school, but I was in the top five and the fact that I have to tell you how awesome I was demonstrating how deep I've sunk.
I can no longer make it up a flight of steps without gasping for air and I'm simply a broke loser stuck at Oakfold Green Mall on a Monday night now. As I wallowed in my sadness, something drew my attention. When I looked up, I saw a sign with directional arrows pointing to Customer Service, washrooms, and the only thing that mattered: Turn right here for security.
As I strolled following the directions, ideas buzzed in the back of my mind. What caused that thudding sound? Don't they normally leave the lights on here at night? It seemed to me that maybe they joined the eco-friendly bandwagon.
In any case, I arrived at security, which was nothing, but a little office nestled away in the rear corner of a dead-end corridor. I could see the blue glow of a TV screen flashing off the walls and reflecting off the windows as I approached. Part of me was worried that security wouldn't even show up. Perhaps it was the strange energy in the air that made everything seem to be frozen in time.
The office was hardly bigger than a walk-in closet, when I peeked in through the closed windows. One desk at each corner, with a washroom door in the middle. A half-empty cup of still-steaming coffee lay on the desk, next to an old playboy calendar pinned to the wall, However, no one was present. Is it possible they were in the restroom? I softly tapped the window, yet there was no answer. I lowered my gaze to the bathroom door's bottom, there was no light. Is it possible that they're on patrol? Something didn't feel right in either case and I should just take a shortcut and exit by a fire escape.
My gaze was drawn to the computer monitor, Security footage in black and white continued to play out, moving between several cameras across the mall: The food court's water fountain, the movie theatre, the main entrance, and bench in front of the Target…my former resting place…. It wasn't, however, completely vacant. Someone was now seated on it, a grainy pixelated shadow.
Is it possible that the footage was delayed? Perhaps the pixelated figure was simply me from a few moments before. But the figures' movements differed from mine, I distinctly remember stretching my back, yet before I saw the figure didn’t…. There’s another person in the mall.
A thud on glass behind me filled my ears and I swung around. The sound boomed down the corridor, and it was the same as before: it was as if someone banged their forehead into a window. I was stuck in place, my eyes searching every dark nook, there was, however, nobody. nothing.
I returned my attention to the security screen, wary. I nearly thought the stranger on the bench had left, that was not the case. But what I saw was far worse: they were suddenly sitting straight, their heads turned down the corridor, their heads inclined like a predator listening for prey. Completely immobile, Body language stiff and somewhat robotic. Then there was another thud, this time, it was right next to me.
The stranger on the bench sprang to his feet, sprinted down the corridor, and disappeared from view. I began to feel anxious, especially because I knew where it was headed. I had no idea what I was up against, and I had no idea what this individual wanted. All I knew was that something absolutely unfathomable was speeding through the mall, heading straight for me, hellbent on something only itself knew about.
Shoes creaked against tiled floors in the distance. Each step slammed harder and harder, bringing us closer and closer. Each strike was laden with unfathomable purpose. My eyes darted everywhere, anxiously looking for a weapon, a hiding spot, anything that could help me.
I ran to an arcade down the corridor and saw a row of vintage arcade games against the far wall. From my previous experience hunting for lost money, I knew that the machines were always approximately a foot away from the wall. My feet had already taken me over before my head had even given the command. All the while, the approaching figure was coming closer and closer, and I ducked behind the arcades. It was a little tighter than I'd prefer, but it was better than being out in the open, surrounded in a dead-end corridor.
As I slid farther into the shadows, The running came to a halt. I couldn't see it, but I imagined it standing about fifty feet away, its eyes frantically scouring the dead-end corridor for the source of the noise.
A lengthy and terrible stillness crept over the room. Only the musty odour of a soda-stained carpet kept me company. After a few more minutes, there was a footstep... but this one was different. It wasn't the sound of a shoe slamming on the floor, it was the gentle scrape of a sock on the carpet. A shiver ran up my spine, a shiver of terror, A twisted terror that gradually gave way to humiliation.
My younger self would be out there kicking this guy's teeth in by now. I sighed, moved forward, and inhaled deeply, No more hiding I thought to myself, However, my surge of bravado jumped ship, and for a good reason. Because I could now hear the figure whispering to themselves a few feet in front of me.
"First date at the movies..." the figure stuttered in a male voice, "Isn't that the same theatre? I'm curious as to what she's up to now." He said nothing, numb and hollow. I'm not sure why, or even how, but this man was echoing my previous ideas loudly. He acted as if he'd been listening in, as if he were a faulty recording of my own thinking.
"I'm not sure why I dumped her," the stranger said, "and I'm not sure if she's married now... Oh, that's right, she dumped me. I cheated because I was a liar. That was foolish, to say the least." he chuckled forcefully.
I drew myself back into the shadows. There was no way I was getting out of this by force; I sat and waited. Quietly breathing. Through a crevice between the arcade machines, I could see what was going on. As the man paced back and forth, muttering, and babbling, occasionally striking himself in the head with a closed fist, I stood there watching. I closed my eyes and concentrated on my breathing.
A whirling of fans, beeping and buzzing, burst to life right behind me. My eyes sprang awake with a start.
"MORTAL KOMBAT," proclaimed a deep baritone voice as the game's soundtrack filled the room.
Through the gap, I peeked out. The stranger was now staring at me with his head tilted, as if he were an inquisitive dog. He made another stride forward, the arcade machine's whirling light now reflected off his face. He was still too far away to see well, but even at this distance, he appeared... average. Even bland. I'm just a regular white man in his thirties. There was no carnival grim, there are no lengthy teeth and there isn't any mouth that is too big. Just a bored-looking man with a boring-looking face; the type of face you forgot about as soon as it disappeared from your field of sight.
I'm not sure why but seeing this made me feel even worse than seeing a lunatic. He seemed slightly familiar to me as well, like if I'd seen him before.
I finally reverted to problem-solving mode, I started by yanking the power wire from the machine. Darkness. Silence. I raised my eyes. Shadow had now filled the gap between the machines. The stranger was right there, peeking through the crack and staring me down, His unblinking eyes reflected by the faint ambient light.
"It's okay..." he gently murmured, "It's okay... don't run...Don't flee..." he said as he moved closer and slipped his hand between the machines towards me, "Don't be a wuss-" His placid demeanour was shattered by laughing, as if he had suddenly recalled the punchline of an old joke. The laughing was odd, stammering, and strained as he grabbed for me, eyes bulging. With each passing second, his laughing became more frantic, his palm inches from my face.
I dragged him closer by reaching up and grabbing his forearm. His laughter became much louder and more maniacal, I pulled his arm to the side and pressed it against the arcade box's corner. His giggling became a little confused and I clenched my teeth and pushed forward with all my might and weight.
With a gratifying crack, his forearm broke. But to my horror, He didn't shout or weep, though, He couldn't stop giggling. It gets louder and louder, His voice was now resonating off the walls, even from the air itself. "Oh... Oh no!" he exclaimed as he staggered away from the machine, gasping for air in between bursts of forced laughter. His broken forearm was dangling beside him, useless, but that didn't bother me, and he was now exactly where I needed him to be.
My back was against the wall, and my feet were against the rear of the arcade machine as I turned sideways. The machine lurched ahead as I pushed with all my might.
I leaped over the top and dashed away, glanced back over my shoulder just as I was about to round the corner. The man was trapped on the floor with both legs crushed beneath the arcade machine and a snapped arm flopping limply at his side. He seemed to be laughing even harder now and he was laughing so hard that his eyes seemed like they were about to explode through his head.
"YOU THINK YOU CAN STOP ME," he grumbled, his head jerking with each syllable, but I'd already left, hauling ass. Running faster than I'd ever run before, my eyes rested on a sign that said FIRE ESCAPE as I skidded around the next curve. The man was somehow again in hot pursuit, and I had no idea how he managed to run with two damaged legs, but I didn't have time to wonder.
"Wait!" Between all the laughing, he yelled, hardly able to get a word out, "I WOULD LIKE TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING!"
I smashed my way through the doors into... A corridor for maintenance. Dammit, another concrete labyrinth awaited me, and the laughing man was gaining on me all the time, I raised my eyes to search for anything.
I dashed down the corridor to the right, I'd hardly gotten a few feet when the doors behind me slammed shut. "W-wait!" he exclaimed, suddenly out of breath, "Please... wait!" he begged, "Don't leave!" he cried, no longer laughing, sounding almost frightened.
I sprint the length of the corridor. The exit seemed impossibly far away, But I kept running, forcing myself to go faster and harder. Every inch of my aged body reverberated with tingling pain. With each passing second, the man got closer. "Come...Come...Come..." he repeated, his voice growing louder.
I just kept running faster and faster, the door closing in on me. Like a light of hope, the red EXIT sign shines brightly.
"WAIT. PLEASE" He grumbled, his voice reverting to the singular, "PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME HERE..." he pleaded, his eyes welling up with tears.
"PLEEEEASE," he groaned, still closing up on me, right on my tail until—I burst through the door. I spun around and pushed my body against it, anticipating a fight…
… But there was no fighting, there was no pounding on the door. There was no crying, there was no laughter. Only total and absolute silence, like if the stranger vanished the moment I walked outside. I stood there for a minute, bracing myself against the door. But then it occurred to me: What if he was exiting through a different route? I listened with my ear against the cold metal door.
Hushed murmurs came from the other side, "You're a broke loser. You used to be a HERO, but now an elderly, destitute, nothing. It's all a waste of time."
My own self-abusive ideas were once again being whispered loudly by the stranger. I took a cautious step back from the door and slipped away, bit by bit. All the time, my gaze was fixed on the door and then I turned around and sprinted down the icy winter streets of my boyhood town in a straight line.
I raced past the park, I rushed past Oakfold Green Hospital, where my grandma passed away in her sleep while I slept in a chair in the corner. I continued to run as my lungs were overcome with fire. A run that became a jog, and then a jog that became a stroll. But I didn't give up. Exhausted. My feet are dragging. Putting as much space as humanly possible between myself and that mall.

I moved to Bath last year at the height of lockdown and have had no chance to make any friends here yet! I was wondering if anybody fancied a game of footy sometime next week and then perhaps regularly after that? I can either book a court at the leisure centre in the city or we can meet in one of the playing fields near Vicky Park?
I'm very much an amateur player and havent even kicked a ball for about ten years so all levels 100% welcome!
